Share less about your kids in public

OngoingAbout 20 minNextWith relatives and your kids' school

Why it matters: Public photos, voices and details are the raw material for voice clones, fake emergencies and deepfakes. What you keep private can't be used to fake them.

On your path if you picked “Kids under 13” or “Teenagers” for “Who's at home?”.

Do it

  1. Set social accounts to friends-only, or review who can see older posts.
  2. Turn off location in photos you share, or remove it when sharing.
  3. Avoid public videos where your child's voice and name appear together.
  4. Ask relatives and schools how they share photos of your children.

Check it worked: Public posts about your kids leave out school names, locations, full birthdays and clips of their voice, and photo location data is off when you share.

Simply put

Public posts are like leaving the family photo album on a park bench. A short clip of your child's voice, plus their name and school, is what makes a fake emergency call sound real.

In detail

Voice cloning needs only a short clean clip, and fake 'kidnapping' calls often borrow a child's real name and school. The safe word covers the call; this step reduces the material that makes it believable.

Points toward the Long View: less public material for anyone trying to fake your child's voice or face.
