Get an alert for every transaction and every change

Set onceAbout 15 minNow

You hear about every payment and every account change as it happens, not on next month's statement.

Why it matters: Fraud is cheapest to fix in the first hour. Alerts turn a surprise on next month's statement into a notification you can act on now.

Do it

  1. In each bank and card app, turn on alerts for all transactions, not just large ones.
  2. Turn on alerts for new payees, changes to contact details and new device sign-ins.
  3. Turn on the same alerts in payment apps.
  4. Save your bank's fraud number from the back of your card into your phone contacts.

Say this: If an alert shows a payment I don't recognize, I call the number on my card right away.

Check it worked: Your bank, cards and payment apps notify you of every payment, new payee, address change and new device sign-in.

Simply put

Alerts are like a doorbell for your accounts: you hear every arrival, not just the loud ones. A strange payment or a changed phone number is cheapest to fix in the first hour.

In detail

Change alerts are the most valuable and the least used. A criminal who takes over a bank account usually changes the phone number or email first so your alerts go to them.

If this is new to you: Worried about a flood of notifications? You'll get one for each payment, which is the point. They're quick to glance at, and they make anything odd stand out.

Points toward the Long View: a money trail you see in real time, wherever payments come from.
